Title: 1999 156s
Post by: vjr on November 30, 2008, 08:12:41 AM
Hi all

Is there any special concern with 156's from '99, being the first year of the model? Just wondered if there's anything different I should be wary of..

thanks!

i'll qualify these comments - the pre 2000 selespeeds had dodgy actuators and pumps which should be replaced.  Most have had the upgrade but you need to confirm this - if they have then 99's are just as good as any other 156 apart from trim, age/wear and tear etc...

My 99 car has had the actuator replaced and more recently the pump and runs a treat.

Thanks for that. I've just today put a deposit on a 1-owner '99 manual!

This car actually could be called immaculate, unlike the others I looked at that claimed to be. I was more hoping for a 00/01 but I couldn't go past this one. Complete service history including in-between services.. still had every receipt since new, even the one with the original price (about $51k). 120K's on the clock but feels like a 100K car. I can tell the owner is very particular.. everything looks like new including the seats (velour.. probably would have preferred leather, but you can't have everything).

Happy chappy for now.. will see how the roadworthy goes tomorrow. If all goes well I could be driving it by tomorrow arvo  :)

congrats!

Thanks. Picked it up less than 24 h from placing a deposit  :) RWC, from Robert Lane Brighton, showed absolutely nothing so it was a quick affair! Thanks for people's help.

Sounds like you have had a busy few days and you got a great car for your efforts.

Post a few pictures so we can check it out or come along to the next club night (next Wednesday) and join up as well.

Cheers.

Yes I checked out 6, and I'm glad I did. Definitely worth the effort traipsing all over the place, even if I did end up buying 10 minutes from home!

And anyone buying a car right now, of any kind, there's much bargaining to be had! Private or dealer, it's a buyer's market. I did insult one seller with my (realistic) offer though!  :-\

I shall post some pictures soon, and see about when I can join the club.
