Title: Help Needed with Colour for my Gtv6
Post by: Dna Dave on September 20, 2018, 06:26:30 PM
Guys,

Being restoring my South Africian 3.0L, its ready for paint and the panel shop has ask for the colour, its original that dark metalic grey, i have the sticker thats on the inside of the hatch but he wants more information or a code, any help would be great, attached is the car before stripping her down and a pic of the sticker.

Hes come up with Grigio Nube 759 or 763 or Grigio Nutro 768

Cheers

David

Dave, it might be safer and easier just to find some original paint, inside a door jamb or similar, have it analysed, then you can get it mixed.

Hi Dave
Find attached a previous thread which contains link to paint codes for all model Alfa Romeos.

Weren't the SA Alfa's all painted [in SA] from a completely different colour palatte than those made in Italy?  I'm sure I read this somewhere, there was a link to Datsun/Nissan period colours for some reason

Dave
It would be a pretty safe bet that the colour you have identified and confirmed from the colour chart  is correct. Refer to the nameplate colour "as specified by Alfa Romeo".

If you want the same colour I'd have somebody mix it using a sample of original paint from the vehicle (door jamb, under dash, windscreen etc)

That said, and just for conversations sake ;)

Glasurit lists three seperate paint lines (lists) for; AlfaRomeo, AlfaRomeo SA and AlfaRomeo RSA (South Africa)

The colour (Duco) sticker mentions AECI .. a South African supplier of chemicals and paints
The sticker also spells the colour out in English, not Italian.  In my experience most every Italian Alfa paint code is named in Italian, ie you would have argento grigo metallico.

An email to AECI or AlfaRomeo RSA in South Africa might be easier, if that's where the car was assembled.

Again though, I'd just have the paint matched by spectrograph using your bodyshops favourite brand of paint, that way it will be identical. Chances are the tech/materials used originally are no longer available and the colour won't be able to be correctly mixed and reproduced from the code anyway.

Edit. Note post #28 & #101

Hi Dave
Find attached link to several photos of the colour Grigio Nube AR 763 on a GTV6. This will give you a clear indication if this is the colour your after when compared to the section of paint left on your vehicle (bearing in mind the gloss level for age).

Nice car!

Craig is 100% correct, South African built Alfa's had their own colours.  Everyone I've ever spoken to or everything I've read over the years essentially says throw away the Italian colour charts on those cars.  Perhaps they started with the same names but even then the paints were formulated, manufactured and applied on the other side of the world so you'll have some variations.

I agree with Craig and Aggie. My SA GTV6 still has its paint decal on the underside of the hatch, it is called Ice White. I'm not aware of this colour on the Arese built cars?
It Looks similar to Biancospino, although I haven't had the opportunity to park it next to my 105 coupe yet.
