Title: Anyone have a pit or car lift?
Post by: Kay_147_GTA on April 24, 2018, 01:23:32 PM
Looking to replace the plastic gear change holder on my 147 GTA which involves removing centre exhaust and shield. Could do it with a jack and ramps but would be a hell of a lot easier in a pit or if the car is on a lift.

There's a slab of beer in it for your troubles.

A few years back there was a startup business in Melbourne suburbia where you could rent a service bay, not sure if it lasted. Price was fair considering what you got.

Found it!

You can rent a car lift and tools by the hour

Geez I wish they had an outlet in Perth. What a great service. Bit like that movie Christine - without the self repairing demonic Plymoth Fury...

Reviews of SSA look promising, I hope they can keep it up - a good halfway point between paying a workshop and doing it with jack stands on the street.

Would love something like that with a decent crash repair rack!  But since a Car-O-Liner costs at least ten times a hoist, it probably won't happen!

Ended up spending 4 hours there on Sat replacing the gear change bushing, they were excellent, the owner Sim even helped with lending the odd tool that we didn't have and a bit of muscle with getting the exhaust back on.

Highly recommend if you want to do work under your car!

Car feels AH-MAY-ZING now after putting new bushing in and having a solid feeling gear change! Gears are still a little stiff but beginning to loosen up with use.

Great to hear kay. Did you let "Sim" know the floodgates are about to open, and he's going to be swamped by local Alfa owners from now on?

Haha, I did mention that I knew a few people who would be keen to use his services!
