Title: Dumbest question ever asked on here - axle stands
Post by: poohbah on December 28, 2017, 03:59:44 PM
This is probably the dumbest question ever asked on here.

Trying to jack my '81 GTV up to get to the clutch slave cylinder, but when I use the rear jacking points to lift the rear, where do I put the axle/wheel stands?

The jacking point isn't long enough to accommodate the stand and the jack. So I assume there is a safe/strong point somewhere else around the rear wheels I can stick the stand?

You put the jack under the middle of the de dion.  Then put the stands under the jack points.

Cheers Aggie, exactly what I decided to do in the end.

And the slave cylinder is shot, fluid pouring out of cylinder, looks like the seals inside have gone.

Hi Poohbah
Hope you bought yourself a new clutch slave cylinder and hose when originally reported, as it might now be difficult over the Christmas New Year break. The unit I recently replaced was a sealed unit and therefore the seals were not able to be replaced.
cheers

There's nothing stopping you from putting the axle stands under the dedion, out near the wheels.

Cheers Bonno and Duk. No I didn't buy one earlier, as today was the first chance I've had to get under the car. Not urgent though.
