Title: Soft plastic
Post by: Sailor209 on November 02, 2017, 02:48:12 PM
What can I do to restore the soft plastic on interior door pulls, power window switch plates and door lever backing plates in my GT
The plastic appears to have a softened surface now which scratched easily with just a fingernail which will actually remove the surface.
I'm thinking that I might need to remove the offending parts and somehow strip the softened surface then apply a vinyl wrap.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Regards all!

I think you can remove the old rubberised paint with some solvent down to the hard plastic bits. And then repaint with vinyl paint and clear coat? Or vinyl wrap it.........

I do have an old TV remote that did the same thing..I cleaned off the offending sticky surface and found solid shiny plastic underneath...
I'm not keen on trying this with such hard to obtain replacements..until I get some advice hopefully from someone who has given it a go.
Thanks..keep em coming!

I've removed the rotted tactile coating on interior trim pieces of three cars - two Alfas and one Peugeot. I found it arduous and messy. My preference was to leave the surfaces stripped as the substrate was not so likely to rot. On the Peugeot some parts had to be repainted as the substrate was a wholly mismatched colour.
