Title: Wheel opinon? - Good or Bad
Post by: matara on October 19, 2017, 09:37:10 PM
I have some what I think to be aftermarket wheels on my 98 Gtv V6. Can anyone help me ID these wheels?

I am in two minds about them, between them being unique on a Gtv or being a bit too boy racer? Also what are your thoughts on them? Good or bad?  I was on the lookout for some Gta teledials, but I saw a GTV with them on recently and thought they sat a bit inboard, and teledials on Gtv's are a bit done now.

I am considering getting thems refurbed and painted anthracite for this sort of look.

Steve, I'm generally a fan of factory teledials for the 916 and 932 series cars but I quite like those rims and think they go with your GTV pretty nicely. I certainly don't think they are too "backward baseball cap".

In fact, they aren't wildly different to the aftermarket DTMs on my current 156. When I bought the car, I was in two minds about keeping them or finding a set of factory teledials (I had teledials on my first 156), but they have grown on me over time, especially as they are 17" vs the 16" of the original factory wheels.

The Pininfarina stablemate of your car - the Peugeot 406 coupƩ - had optional five spoke wheels not a million miles from those. So it's not really a look without precedent.

I think they are simple enough that they "stretch" the car visually, and lack most of the usual aftermarket frippery of extra grooves and crass, oversized, monograms. If ride comfort is within reason I'd save the cost of other wheels for something else that enhanced piloting enjoyment.

These look like Mak Energy wheels. I had a set on an Alfa 75 back in the day. Definitely aftermarket. What size are they? If they are 16", it's not unreasonable to wonder whether there were the ones that I had on my car. They definitely weren't a commonly seen wheel
