Title: how to read and use the recommended torque value(s)
Post by: cc on January 30, 2017, 06:35:09 PM
Hi
Elearn details 2 values to use when torqueing up a fastener.
For example the 3 bolts retaining the thermostat on the V6 are tightened to 21-26Nm.
Does this mean the values can be between 21 to 26. Or as Ive read on another alfa forum.
Tighten to 21 and then to 26.
cheers Carl

It means tighten to between 21 to 26Nm. It is a tolerance range.

Just be aware that eLearn usually uses daNm which mean Deca-Newton Metres. So a rating of say 2.1daNm is 21Nm.
(not everyone understands that)   :)

Gday,

If you are following torque specs, always be aware that they were written for brand new nuts and bolts, not ones that are 10+ years old and have been stressed/stretched over time.

Cheers

thanks guys. will do some more posts on torqueing the difficult to access bolts eg the bolt for the timing belt tensioner, which i did by feel!! when last done. Have since bought a 1-25Nm WB tool. Have ordered in a kc tools 10mm crows foot tool to use on the belt tensioner due to poor access; being right up against the wheel well. Price ok $10 + 10 for courier to shop supplying here in Brisbane. As opposed to $30-40 all up elsewhere.
