Title: rumbly air con compressor
Post by: cc on January 23, 2017, 03:45:47 PM
In the process of putting the serpentine belt back on and the air con drive wheel was spun by hand. It sounds very dry and rumbly... Is this normal?

I'd say no. I just had same issue with mine - It got progressively louder and worse over a period of about 3 months. Had the compressor bearing changed, and all good.

If the A/C works well and keeps you cool the bearing can be swapped in situ without re-gassing, how ever if its not cooling the best your better off to replace the whole unit.

How is the bearing pulled in situ?

Just thought about it and till now have only replaced the compressors on 156 V6 cars. Only done in situ bearings on 156 TS & JTS.

Would need to know what brand and model compressor your 156 is fitted with. Certain brands/models it can't be done in situ and have to be removed. Also depends on how your Piping is routed.

Design Continuity is NOT a principle that Alfa Romeo seems to be familiar with!   ::)
