Hey guys, I have read a bit about 156 air cons being pretty crap. Up till now ours has live up (or down) to that, and Im in Darwin so it's a pretty big issue! Ive been thinking for a whil that it could have a blocked cabin filter as the air seems cold out of the vents but the fan would just make a lot of noise but not move much air at all. Trawling the net revealed the JTS has it's filters under the glove box and not under the screen cover like most places suggest (twin spark). So recently I had a dig around under there, got the filters out and low and behold they were filthy- couldn't see one bit of light through them! So now running with out them airflow is vastly improved and aircon performance has improved out of sight! It's still not freezing in there but for a euro car in the hottest place in Australia it's not too bad. I realize running without the filters is not too good so some are on order.
So for anyone with one of these cars with a crap aircon I would highly recommend having a look at these filters and you might be surprised at how blocked up they are.
Cheers
Hi Josh,
Yes, they are often overlooked and ignored. The OE single-filter in my Twin-Spark (under the scuttle) was active carbon impregnated, to filter out exhaust fumes, pollen, odours and such. Not just dust. Comparing back to back, you can get 'just' paper particle filters that are designed to not filter to such a high degree ... Valeo 'Comfort' was the brand I think. The a/c airflow increase is noticeable ...
Cheers Phil

Thanks Phil I'll look for that brand
No worries. Oh, didn't purchase from ebay site. That was just a quick reference point. I purchased cabin filter, and a whole lot of parts over the years!, via phone from Italian Automotive Spares in Melb. Domenic and Peter are club sponsors and top blokes to help with parts for you Alfa!
Thanks Phil I'll remember that, I'd much rather buy from Australia if I can.
Cheers
