Title: Coil for a 1750GTV
Post by: 1750GTV on July 24, 2008, 01:27:29 PM
Some time ago I modified the Kettering ignition system in my car to a Hall effect 'pointless' distributor feeding an electronic ignition module that I built from a kit. I did it this way basically for the fun of it and because it's something that I can do. At the time the original coil was pretty cactus so I replaced it with a generic off the shelf model.
The engine is otherwise standard apart from a pair of 10548 cams installed many years ago. It starts and runs very well, but for various reasons I'm now interested in getting a higher performance coil.
Has anyone any advice on brands and local availability etc. The system I have runs an external ballast resistor.
Thanks,
Chris

Hey Chris
Me again. Just a chime in! I am running a standard bosch GT40. I'm told it's not correct for the car but it's there and it works. The impedance is low enough so I dont have to run a ballast resistor.
It came whit the car.
Just ripped up the Hume for four hours yesterday and ripped back four hours today.
Magnificent! Roof down all the way, Full sun yesterday, even got some sun today!
Got to go away a month for work so a big blast of Aussie air and scenery was just the ticket.
Cheers
J.

Looks like you need to get to bed a bit earlier as well - particularly if you are posting to a BB just after midnight ;D

I thought that I might try one of those allegedly fire-breathing coils. Don't quite know why as the car is rocketing along quite well at the moment. I should touch wood when I say that, but then I do whenever I grab the steering wheel.
