Title: Bathurst1000
Post by: V AR 164 on October 06, 2016, 05:30:01 PM
Unrelated to Alfa's, but it's that time of year again!

Who are you going for this weekend? Whincup (my driver) seems to have great pace and this proves it: http://www.supercars.com/news/championship/whincup-sets-new-record/?sf38008945=1   ;D

Didn't watch any of the coverage today but apparently Coulthard (#12) has great pace too.
It's going to be a good weekend for sure!

Andrew.

Not really barracking for anyone in particular on Sunday, but I do enjoy the crash bang of Mt Panorama.

I've really been enjoying watching Bathurst Classics on Foxtel this week - the '87 race was featured the other night and I'd completely forgotten about the no Falcon years (cos V8 was killed off), WTCC drivers were involved and Group A rules prevailed. Was actually refreshing to see Fords, Holdens, Bimmers, and Nissans (even a Mitsubishi Starion!) duking it out for the main prize. I also spotted spotted Colin Bond fanging around in a 75 (DNF!)

Roland Ratzenberger, the F1 driver who was killed the day before Senna in '94, was also driving for BMW.

Some German driver in a Ford Sierra won and another Sierra came 2nd, but they both later got disqualified and Brock (who came third) was named the winner ... months later in 1988!

So the silver lining in the looming end of local manufacturing hopefully will be a return to the days of multiple manufacturers with a real chance of winning, not just Falcodores.

Ooops I got my Foxtel shows mixed up, the '87 race was featured in Legends of Bathurst, not Bathurst Classics!

I've been overdosing on Bathurst specials this week....

But - as far as 2016 goes - i guess i should back Garth Tander being a sandgroper. Especially as HRT have cut him for next year.
