Title: Selespeed gearbox selector detent plunger weak?
Post by: Berridale on September 29, 2016, 11:24:23 PM
Selespeed gearbox detent plunger weak?

This would apply to any Alfa gearbox.
Just guessing that the jumping out of 3rd gear is related to a detent plunger being damaged.
The protrusion of the detent ball is less than the other.
There are three detent plungers on the side of the box , two are paired one of these has the ball that doesn't come all the way out.
Pretty sure it is the upper one.

Anyone been down this path?

Jumping out of third gear, do you mean as your driving along in 3rd at a constant it drops out of 3rd, or as it is trying to change from 2nd to 3rd it cant seem to find 3rd and drops out of gear or skips to 4th or 5th?
