Quick mental note here. I sold a spare wiper assembly about a year ago for $80, which I thought was a very fair price considering what was being asked of them.
Anyhow, have never been a fan of the prices that wreckers and auto dismantlers ask for used spare parts. The very few times I have wasted my time in seeking a price, I have always been disappointed. In my quest, my dislike of wreckers was not disproved. I sent off a number of email enquiries, mainly because I don't think I'd be as civil as the Kerigans in what I thought of the pricing. Anyhow, I received quotes of between $245 and near $300, just for the assembly (no motor). I had one wrecker call me for the hard sell, stating it was in excess of $750 new!!! I called BS and sure enough a brand new OEM unit from my fav parts supplier in the UK would have had a complete genuine OEM assembly and motor at my doorstep within 5 days for the princely sum of $330 AUD...
Well, I wasn't prepared to fork that amount out just yet, so I researched. Funnily enough, the Alfa GT uses the same assembly. So a quick search found me an item on eBay, off a GT, delivered from a UK wrecker for $140 AUD (with motor) within 7 days. Flabbergasted I was, to think that local wreckers feel they can justify the cost of used parts at only a minor percentage shy of new pricing. Shame on you, I for one will continue to purchase my parts off shore.
