Title: Petrol smell
Post by: marktim on June 16, 2016, 08:59:35 PM
Well I've got my new clutch and bits and pieces fitted and my gtv is running great but when I throw her around a corner a bit harder than normal i get a petrol smell in the cab, the tank is half full and I've looked at the fittings going onto the fuel pump and all good, I looked at the hose going into the tank and no splits and clamp is tight, any suggestions or advice gladly taken, cheers.

Check the breather. Access in the boot and under parcel shelf. I think there's some kinda canister in there but if the lines to it are blocked it'll stink up the cabin.

Yep try the canister! Also you might find some holes in the firewall I went to Clark Rubber and bought a closed grommet to close off the holes which helped as well.

I had it in mine and it was the little yellow and black check valve that was the problem.
There are off shelf options for other cars and I may have some spares.
PM me and if I still have one I'll send it through so you can experiment.

The outlet nipple from the canister to the intake manifold line over time gets blocked rock-hard from a mixture of petrol and oil fumes!

Thanks for the replies, I'll check it out again tomorrow and see if I can get somewhere with it, it only happens when I'm throwing it around the corners a bit, which is getting more and more often the more i drive her, cheers.  :)
