Title: Converting Twin Spark Selespeed to Manual
Post by: Rigi on July 31, 2015, 06:49:43 PM
I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on changing from Selespeed to manual .... why ?  Have a good 147 TS with stuffed Selespeed and would like to convert to manual and put on the track

Hi Rigi,

Absolutely not worth doing.

You would spend more than the car is worth doing the conversion, you could just as easily buy a manual 147 for probably less that the cost of a conversion also.

The Selespeeds and manuals have different gearbox casings and also different clutch pressure plates and thrust bearings.

You would need to change the whole gearbox as there isn't a clutch fork on a manual as the thrust bearing is also the slave cylinder.

There is a shitload more stuff you'd have to change over, so I'm not going to list it all as it's a waste of time.

Maybe you could sell the car with the stuffed selespeed to a wrecker, and put that money toward a manual 147.
