Title: What is this sensor for
Post by: alfagtv85 on July 29, 2015, 06:21:48 PM
Hi All

I have recently purchases a 1985 Alfa GTV6 2.5 and have commenced cleaning up the vehicle, the PO has made a number of engine and wiring changes to the vehicle which requires identifying and repairing and correcting as much as possible.

I have found a sensor (as per the attached photo) near the oil dip stick which I cannot account for and checking the workshop manual it seems I cannot not identify, would anyone have a suggestion of what would this be, taking into account that the oil sensor and sender are at the top of the block.

On face value, it looks like the Oil level Sensor that I've seen fitted on Alfa 75 Twin Sparks.
Not being familiar with Alfa 75 V6s, I can only assume they had the same feature as the TS.

Therefore, it raises the question on whether the V6 in your GTV6 is in fact the original engine or one taken from a later Alfa 75???

I know for sure, having an 1985 GTV6 myself, these Oil Level Sensors were not fitted to this model.

Hope that helps.

Frank.

All

Thank you for your reply and I was of the same opinion that the engine may not be the original and could have possibly been changed.

Looked up alfaowner.com and the engine prefix (- 01646) on my engine matches up with a Alfa 75 2.5 V6 (GB) it seems.

Thanks again for your assistance and information.
