Title: gtv aircleaner box
Post by: carlo rossi on March 23, 2015, 06:14:39 PM
I have just been attempting to put my original air cleaner back on and take off the ram flo units
interesting was the variations in the box,the version i have has in effect half ram tubes quite impressive  and is wider than the earlier version that is narrower.
does anybody know about how good this version is compared to the earlier version.
i have both which to put on??

think i found the answer from earlier blogs and I quote
74 stock box showed 66 HP at 3000, 91 at 4000, 106 at 5000.
No air box showed 61 HP at 3000, 85 at 4000, 102 at 5000.
74 stock box with no filter inside was essentially identical to with filter.
Shankle airbox (not sure what that is; it's not QuadraFlow is it?) showed 64 HP at 3000, 91 at 4000, 109 at 5000, and continue to maintain a 3 HP advantage up from there.
77 and 79 air boxes also tested, and showed 69 HP at 3000, 90 at 4000, 97 at 5000. take of the mechanical fan is another 6 hp
then this response from
While restoring another car ( my '74 Spider Veloce) I took apart most of the engine pieces for thourough cleaning and discovered the genious behind the factory air boxes. One will notice that outside the large intake box of say a Honda S2000, you will be hard in finding a better designed air box as the one used by the Alfa Engr's. If you bother to take a peak inside the box after removing the filter element, you will notice the outragious design of the box. It took me many years to realize that inside the box exist four (4) individual "ram like" tubes extending from the throttle openings into the air cleaner. Never in a million years would another car company bother to spend that much time engineering something like that. On a cool day or evening, nothing will perform better then the original box configuration.

Sorry you haven't gotten a reply earlier mate. I held off as I wasn't quite sure where it was you were looking at, but I think I'm on the same page with you. Just hold onto your pants a little tighter as the cf2 engines' (2001+) manifolds have variable intake air rams, changing in length throughout the rev range/manifold pressure!!!

Yeah I was impressed by the diameters of the intakes for the 2L

yes it is impressive its funny how the little things can mean so much'( my wife told me this, never believed her!)
i put the late model original with the runners air cleaner back on
and my dyno foot felt at least 5 hp more than the ram flo filters maybe even 10hp
in fact Im going to try 2 point bigger main jets to see what happens
see ya at auto italia buon viaggio!
