Hi guys - new to this forum - really valuable resource for all Alfa owners.
My car is really struggling to accelerate without a warning message coming up and the car is shuddering and seemed to be running very lean (like it was running out of fuel).
Motor Control System Failure is flashing and wont go away. recently changed the selespeed pump and 1 coil on cylinder 4. any chance another coil has gone?
I am located in Melbourne and would really appreciate some advise. Dont have alot of $$$ to spend.
Thanks :)
sounds like a coil.
best get it on a examiner to check.
Take it to a Alfa Romeo specialist and get them to check the coil packs with a Coil On Plug checker, which will show which coil is misbehaving.
If they find a faulty coil pack, you could get it replaced by a good second hand unit.
If you want a new coil on plug and you know the old one is faulty, you could try Alfamen in Brooklyn or Italian Automotive Spares in Brunswick, they both had excellent displays of new coils at last Sunday's Spectacolo at Wesley, Colin.
Thanks everyone. Will get it checked out!
Don't drive it with a dud coil as one cylinder won't be firing and the unburnt petrol will meet up with the exhaust gases from the joining cylinder and burn in the exhaust pipe.
I know from experience, as i had a coil go on the way home from work and the motor started to misfire and the 'motor control failure' light came on, when i got it home, i lifted the bonnet and it was as hot as hell under the bonnet and the exhaust was glowing red hot!, "look its just like having a turbo", ha ha, Colin.
