Title: 159 diesel automatic no go!
Post by: KerryH on November 27, 2014, 08:15:45 PM
Please forgive me, I'm not a mechanical person, I bought my 2009 159 auto diesel because it was simply a beautiful car. I've had a clunk in the gearbox occasionally which I asked the dealer to check- no improvements and continued from time to time until finally the car is no longer drive able.
Although the engine starts and idles in park, as soon as drive or reverse are engaged, the engine stalls. The car has been towed to three different service centres- the previous dealer I purchased the vehicle from, the current dealer and an automatic transmission specialist. So far I have two different opinions, and one "don't know." The EGR has been checked and I'm informed that's not the problem.
The car is currently at the alfa dealer, and although they initially said there would be no charge until they find the problem, they've changed their mind and now want payment to try to find the problem- but they don't know where to start. Can someone please offer me some ideas, the car only has 85,000ks?

have they tried to scan for fault codes.  that would be a starting point. it could have something to do with the electronic convertor lock up. also check the oil pump pressure. convertor works similar to a clutch if it is constantly locked it will stall the engine that clunk noise from time to time could of been convertor lock up
