Title: Cairns 105 refurbishment
Post by: Mr Frog on November 13, 2014, 04:46:03 PM
For anyone interested, here is my facebook link for the extensive work (not full restoration) of my dear old 105 being completed in Cairns.

It's been a long process, with a trip to my former mechanic in Melbourne while I was down there earlier this year, then some emergency work in Brisbane, and now the body and interior.

Almost finished -  maybe another week or so all going well.

I've been pretty lucky as the car has been largely rust-free apart from the rh front floor pan and to a lesser extent the lh side (both have been replaced). Other than that, there has been amazingly little. The bodywork was straight but bumpy around the front roofline and the tops of the doors, with the rest being supermarket dings and bumps and scratches.

I've had the car since 1996, and it's done plenty of work, including four Melbourne-Cairns-Melbourne, Cairns, one Cairns-Canberra-Cairns and one Cairns-Melbourne-Cairns (this year). It's a daily driver and I've had almost no mechanical problems apart from a stuffed steering box and a cactus distributor on the way back from Melbourne in July.

Looks great!
I'd be interested to know what it cost / or was budgeted (PM if you like).
Mine needs similar work and I don't have the motivation to do it myself (again)

On a separate note, we have a mutual friend at the ABC :)
