I have noticed a topic started by AlfaDuk in regard to low mileage Alfetta's ,and it seems a few cars out there have less than 100K on the clock. So, who out there in Alfa land has the highest mileage alfetta.?
I will start it off with my 85 Alfetta GTV having a genuine 230,000 kays , who's next?
:D ;D 8)
The Late Ray Sharp had an Alfetta Sportiva sedan with well over 300,000 kms on the speedo and when questioned about Alfa Romeo's questionable reliability he usually quoted the speedo reading and had never had an issue with reliability.
My experience with the Alfa Nord/Alfetta carburetor engines is a relatively short life around 150-160,000kms before requiring a major rebuild due to excessive oil leaks, oil burning and occasionally stuffed head gaskets. The oil burning was typically a combination of tired valve stems seals and worn oil control rings. The engines would still pull hard but too much oil smoke.
I think this is mainly due to the effect of carb. mixtures vs injection mixtures and hence the twin spark equivalent engines last (used under the same conditions) around 3 times longer.
I am the second owner of a 1984 GTV V6 2.5 with 352103 documented Kms - service history.
Had an engine upgrade at approx. 330,000 kms with a 3.0 litre 164 engine.
Still has most of its original paint and front windscreen with radio aerial and uncracked dash.

I presume we are talking about what the speedo says,,which means what the car itself has done.
Many cars would have had engine reconditioning or replacement by now.

Anymore than 330,000 kays?
Sorry, that was 352, 000 lays
Sorry that was 352,000 lays
Not qiute as high as that but mine has a genuine 233000 kms and as it's a GCL has a six digit odometer unlike the earlier ones that had a 5 digit odo and reset at 100000 kms.
It had new piston rings and a head rebuild I believe at 155000 kms according to was written in the
service book by the previous owner.
It travelled over 22000 kms in 3 years of daily driving before it was 'retired' last month and replaced with an Alfa GT 3.2. What a fantastic reliable Alfa !
My '83 strada has a genuine 353,000km, engine and gearbox still original and was running til the day it was put off the road, was a very well looked after car since new and been around a fair bit of Australia, however it did burn a fair bit of oil towards the end haha:p

Quoterebuild I believe at 155000 kms
Pretty much the standard in my experience if the cars were driven to do the business they were meant to and given the prevalence of speed enforcement in the days when they were running, business was booming.. ;D

352,000 lays huh JP. I'm sure Rob would be keen, but 352k seems just a bit tiring :D
I missed the low mileage part, but my '79 Alfetta has 78000km from new, all original, I'm the 2nd owner. Burns a little oil, I'll let you know how it's going once I top 300,000.....
