Title: engine and gearbox swap!!!
Post by: hairdo 429 on May 08, 2014, 09:44:41 AM
How long does it take for an experienced alfa mechanic  in Sydney with over 30yrs exp to swap a short engine and gearbox for a 105 spider.
40-45 hours!!!!
That's what I have been charged at $100 an hour +gst!!!!!
Been told by Angelo from Alfa 105 alive that he allows 22 hours for an engine reconditioning! for the same 2lt engines!!!
Figure that out.

Please provide some more detail.

Was there a reason for so many hours? Was something wrong with the engine? Did the head get stuck and they had to spend 10 hours working it off? Did it need rebuilding? Was anything wrong with the gearbox? Did it need synchros or dog drives or bearings or something like that?

There is no point to your post or segue for discussion the way you have written it.

Give some more info. Do you have a breakdown of hours and labour? Thanks.

 You are absolutely right.
Before I go any further I will give this person a chance to rectify the issue.
The engine had to by fitted with the carbies and ancillaries from my car.
The gearbox had been fully reconditioned ,so there was no nternal work involved.
Regards

Hi ,all has been sorted.
There were a lot of other things that had been done that I was not aware of.
My apologies for the misunderstanding.

A nice change to see someone give the mechanic a chance and question the bill before badmouthing them publicly.
