Title: 156 gear jumping
Post by: rosmnugan on September 30, 2013, 03:54:50 PM
Hi, I'm looking at buying an 2001 Alfa 156 wagon and the seller has just advised that the gear can jump out when engine is hot and revs are low.  Would someone mind advising me how big a problem this is? Much appreciated. Ros

If its a Selespeed, then it needs a service, if its a manual, you may have worn or out of adjustment gear change cables and or it could be worn synchro's that hold it in gear, the previous owner may have held their hand on the gearlever all the time wearing out the synchro's.
Have it checked out by an Alfa Romeo service provider that work on these cars all the time and know them well, don't go to the RACV or the NRMA, as they only know Corolla's and Mazda 3's, Alfa Romeo's are more specialised and need more than a general mechanic, Colin.

Thanks Colin, that's a gr8 help! Will get the dealer who's serviced it regularly to inspect it... Cheers :)
