Title: Plating bolts and fasteners - post process considerations
Post by: pancho on August 12, 2013, 11:38:45 AM
I'm going to get some plating done for the restoration so I thought I'd check out what the process entails. This is one part that shouldn't apparently be overlooked with the high tensile fasteners.

Interesting article

Interesting, and something I had no idea about.

Mind you, haven't had anything plated before, but had considered it along the way. Also, haven't found any 'visible' bolts harder than 8.8; maybe inside the engine, but probably don't need to plate them.

:)

Certain suspension fasteners and the like you'll find will be HT bolts and may need to be treated.

Any plating shop worth its salt is going to be able to do a hydrogen de-embrittlement bake. just make sure you ask for it.
