Title: Good dust cover for in-garage use
Post by: RobDee on August 05, 2013, 08:22:08 AM
Looking for info on dust covers to fit a Spider.  Recommendations, suppliers, photos, etc.  I'm in Melbourne.

Car will be garaged so not looking for waterproof cover.  Want something easy to fit and remove, gentle on the body.

Thanks

Old flanellette sheets.  Easy to wash, easy to dry.

Costco have a good range of car covers, need one with a soft inner, so it doesn't rub the sharp creases on the paintwork, a hook in the centre on both sides just near the B pillar, so that you can hook on a elastic strap underneath, so the wind doesn't pick it up and blow into your neihbours place, if left outside, [yes it happened to me during a storm], Colin.

Hi RobDee

Have a look at the show car covers on the Autotecnica website. Nice, thick cover with plush inner lining. Has tie straps if required.

I know you should go for local suppliers, but as I was buying a bunch of stuff from Classic Alfa at one point I included one of these:

I've actually only put it on the race car, but it's a nice soft indoor cover.  I'm told half the battle is in not dragging the cover over the car - put it on the roof in a way that you can fold outwards towards the corners.

Having said that - our actual 105 is up at the workshop covered in nice old flannelette sheets and they seem to work a treat!

Make sure you wash any soft cover once a year in the washing machine or at the dry cleaners as the dust settles, becomes imbedded and then becomes an abrasive.
Not kind to nice paint finishes.

K-Mart have dust covers for $20 each, at that price, they are almost a throw away item, a few sizes to choose from, Colin.

Use a blanket or something heavy that the wind cannot blow dust and grit under and a cheap cover over the top.

Also depending on what type of ceiling is in the garage, put a big sheet of cardboard to catch the water from the condensation from the ceiling rafters/skylights.  This specially on cold nights, then warms up during the day and dirty water droplets fall down.

Rob,
I use the Autotechnica for all of my cars but cut off the straps and clips.
