Title: Alfa 90 - Paint Code?
Post by: Beatle on July 25, 2013, 05:53:59 PM
Where do I look for the paint code tag?  I though it would be under the bootlid, but no luck.

What would a Sep 1985 manufactured Alfa 90 RED paint colour be?  I'm sure they would only have used one red for Australia in that year?

Thanks Alphie, I have a c-pillar panel removed that I can take to a paint store/workshop to have the paint colour electronically matched.  Just trying to work out the factory code.

Of course, there is no guarantee the panel I have is a match for where I need to paint.  I suspect the car has a few different shades, and ages of Alfa red, depending on the panel  ;)

I actually have an old can of red enamel rust paint, into which I mixed a half can of the same brand black. I mixed it up for a trailer about 8 years ago and I'll be damned if it isn't an exact colour match!!!.    But it takes ages to dry and you can't really work it after it's dried.   I still might use it around the B-pillar repairs where it's mostly covered. Might even use a small foam roller......

sound good mate
the paint i make up is Acrylic paint, I had a bloke come in and was looking to repaint his front bar on a vp commador
it was white and silver. The white paint was easy but the silver was hard due to no paint code. We matched it with alfa romeo 105 silver.

Hi Paul,

FWIW, my red 90 is code AR530. I'm not sure what the name is as there's a scratch in the label.

The good news is that there is a match in the Power Plus range and that is PJ5124, subtitled SNB 150 Milano Red.
It actually looks too dark in the shop, but it worked on mine. That's a 1986 90 Super by the way.

Cheers
Steve
Adelaide.

My 33 has the AR 530 paint code as well, and i have found that a Mitsubishi color 'impact red' is very close, and the good news is it comes in a pressure pack, Colin.

Thanks Guys.  Steve you are a gem!!  I was looking at the Power Plus but they had around 14 red shades in cans and all had the same colour lids.    I was going to go the Milano Red on a whim, now I'll take the chance.

Oh, and I found this listing of the Power plus range  http://wiki.r31skylineclub.com/images/f/f9/Paint-codes.pdf

Job done.  http://www.alfaclubvic.org.au/forum/index.php?topic=8649.15
Thanks Steve, the Milano Red was a fantastic colour match.

And Yes, the lid colour is too dark.  I did a couple of test sprays and the true shade isn't achieved until the 2nd/3rd coat.  Even on white paper a single coat looked to dark and 'plummy'.
