Hi all, has anyone had long or short term experience with Davies Craig (original or 'others") style of electric thermo fans? What size is correct for a road going GTJ? It seems a 14 inch is recommended but I think a 12 inch would probably be efficient enough seeing that it's bigger than what's in the car as standard 105 wear. I don't intend to sit in freeway? peak time car park conditions so I don't think that overkill on fan capacity is needed . Any ideas Gents before I blow my hard earned lolly on the wrong size unit?? (yeah! I know about the supposed 7 BHP that is gained by this retrofit! thats why I'm doing it!)....................................Cheers
SPAL brand, made in Italy, good quality, good design, purchased a 6.5 inch fan for the 33, very good product indeed, only chanced upon it, some of the brand name fans are now made of inferior materials and are not what they once where, mine can be made to pull or push the air through, have a look at their range to see if they have one to suit you, not cheap, but good things never are, Colin.
pickapart. you can butcher a thermo switch fitting from a radiator while you're there and have it soldered into your radiator. Not many cars have pusher fans though
Most cars from the last 20 years have had electric cooling fans, so at Pinch-a-part, you will have a wide variety to choose from, Davies-Craig used to make thermo switch that had a sensor that fitted under the top radiator hose, easier than soldering a sensor into the radiator, and it was adjustable, Colin.
Not many pushers at pick apart, I found a pair in a Renault fuego
Don't use the Davies Craig thermo switch, it's an ugly and leak prone. Use a relay however. I like to add a switch and indicator light on the dash too
