TBI, Italian [Fiat] motor in an Italian car, lightish 4 cylinder with no too much weight over the driving wheels, stay off the turbo for low fuel ussage, get on the turbo for lots of power, the Brera has come down in price on the second hand market, 4 cylinder can struggle a bit in a heavy body with the 2.2 JTS, not sure if any Turbo's made it into the Brera, it was only in the 159 for about 12 months, the testers said the TBI was a good one, the V-6 copes with the heavy body better, but more weight over front wheels, lots of torque and high fuel consumption, Colin.

It is a great shame that they never put a Busso in the Brera. They are a glorious thing, that's for sure. Did we get any 2.4 JTDM Breras here? If so, that would be the best choice apart from a TBI, I think.

Ive driven the 2.2 jts (manual & selespeed) and the v6 auto.

The manual 2.2 does feel heavy but it goes ok for a cruiser. I particularly liked the selespeed for the faster shifting and also because I drive a 156 selespeed daily and love. As a daily driver I would need to seriously consider getting a manual car again.

The v6 feels great when driving. It has power & smoothness but the fuel consumption may be an issue especially if u do a lkt of city driving.

We got a few turbo 1750 TBIs but rarely come up for sale. There was one for sale by a dealer in adelaide. Approx. $33000. The day it went off car sales the same dealer put up a v6 so it mudt mean the buyer of the turbo car traded his v6 and that is telling you something.  The dealer was belcar. Do a Google search and you will find them.  We never got the diesels.  Probably would not have been a big seller here anyway.

Hey, have owned my jts since new and it is a great car! No issues at all as long as it's serviced I guess!

I've owned a 2.2 JTS Brera since new. I've also owned a 2.2 manual 159 and before that a 2.0 JTS 156.

Like the Alfetta GTV, the 4 cylinder has better balance and "points" better, but lacks the power of the V6. The 2.2 also gets dramatically better fuel consumption. Dramatically. As a daily drive, I wouldn't swap the 2.2 for the V6. But I do have other cars. If I wanted a single car as a compromise to do a range of tasks, then maybe.

I don't like selespeed and would never own one. But its a personal preference thing. Some people love selespeed.
