Title: smoking from exhaust
Post by: drewster71 on May 11, 2013, 08:10:40 AM
Morning all,
I finally got the old girl 83 2lt gtv turned over last night been a while.
Apart from running extremly rough, once warmed up seems to be something oil like leaking onto the exhaust near where motor and gear box connect, Yes i understand rear mounted gear box i mean up front where main engine finish and gear box assembly starts before running to rear. didnt smell oil like when removed some from exhaust once cooled. any one heard of similar ?

Cheers in advance Drew  ;)

More info required.
You say=Like when removed ?
Did you remove + install the engine ?/
Might be oil leak from rear= headgasket
From rear of head exhaust side= plugs.
From rear of rocker cover gasket= half moon seals.
From brake fluid from brake master cylinder.

That thing you call behind the engine is called an extension housing.

You always get smoke from exhast when refitting an engine= exhaust manifolds and engine pipe due to greasy hands on installation.
More info required

I'll put $5 on brake fluid from the master.  Doesn't smell like oil.  Smells kind of ... sweet? ... when it smokes off your exhaust.
