Just to ask other Alfa 75 V6 owners out there. At what temperature does your fan switch turn on? on my 3.0 V6 it turns on at 90C. Is that normal? I am considering changing to 76-86C fan switch. :)
Thanks again
The temperature gauge in the dash probably isn't super accurate; nor the switch for that matter. But indeed, the fan is designed to turn on just below 90 degrees celcius (ie: where the coolant is touching the thermoswitch in the radiator, as opposed to elsewhere in the system).
The switch is usually an '86/76' design, meaning the switch closes (and activates the fan) when the coolant rises to 86 degrees celcius, then opens again when the coolant drops down to 76 degrees celcius.
I have read about people fitting a VW thermoswitch which cuts in at a lower temperature, but I don't know the specs or part number.
Regardless, what you're describing is completely normal, so unless it's actually overheating, there is no reason to change things.
