Title: Alfetta GTV air-con compressor replacement?
Post by: DomenicC1 on April 21, 2013, 11:27:31 AM
Can anyone help me with some knowledge of what I can replace the factory YORK air-con compressor in an 83 Alfetta GTV 2.0? I would prefer it to be able to bolt onto the existing bracket with little modification. Will any from another late model Alfa or aftermarket type fit and more importantly work efficiently?

Any assistance will be appreciated!

Regards
Domenic

I know your in adelaide but give bruno of maranello pursang motors (melbourne) a call, he'll be able to explain to you exactly what you can do. From memory when i asked about my '83 gtv about 2 years ago he said an alfa 156 a/c will fit, but call him to confirm.
Cheeers, stefan

Hey Dom make sure you post what you find out and how or what you end up doing? I'm keen to know also for my Alfetta project.

The 156 compressor is made for R134 refrigerant gas and ester PAG refrigerant oils and the Alfetta being pre 1992 is on R12 refrigerant gas, if you use a 156 compressor, make sure you have it flushed of the PAG oil, as its not compatable with the refrigerant oils used in R12 systems, the R134 gas is very fine and would most likely leak out of an old R12 compressor, but the older type R12 gas is quite thick and won't leak out of a 156 compressor and the 156 unit is a good Japanese unit, Colin.
