Title: How long have you owned your Alfa?
Post by: aggie57 on February 11, 2013, 01:29:51 PM
I'm wondering how long some of our members have owned their current Alfa's?  I ask as my 2000 GTV comes up to 30 years with me this year, of which 28 have been immobile but what the heck!

I know there will be plenty who have had at least one of theirs longer than that.....

I have had my 90 for 12 years, but in the misses family they have had their 105 for about 35to40 years, would love to get it and restore it as it was the personal car of the head of alfa Romeo when it was new

I've had my two Alfetta GTVs for 15 and 16 years, last time I drove one of them on the road was about 13 years ago though.
They sat forgotten in the back of my shed for about 10 years, but then the bug bit again so now I'm getting one ready for club plates and the other ready for the track.

Our 1750 GTV has been with us for 15 years, and off the road for almost all of that.  The Sud has been Fiona's for at least 17-18, I'll have to ask her.

Cheers,

Paul.

I feel like a newbie! My 33 has been the day to day driver for nearly three years, but as it replaced an identical 33 which was my daily but after 9 years and 533,000km (from memory) on the clock it was starting to need replacing. I have done about 475,000 km in total in the two.

Come on Colcol you can beat that.

I can beat that!, 1984 33 TI had it since Easter 1986, that is 27 years, the car is 28.5 years old, still a daily driver on full rego, had the 156 for 4 years, brother had his Sud between 1984 to 2011, thats 27 years on full rego, sat in my shed for a few years, until i fixed it up, and drove it myself for about 4 years, interesting to jump from a 1.5 twin carb 33 to a 1.7 twin carb Alfasud, as experts that know, Alfa Romeo's are rubbish and don't last very long and are always breaking down, Colin.

I bought my 1970 1750GTV from the original owner in August 1978.
It has been continuously registered with the same number plate since new and has only ever been off the road for repairs and maintenance. It was my daily driver for many years until it was semiretired in the late 1990s when I took up the option of a work car.
I still use it regularly for short trips and club runs and can't ever see myself parting with it despite owning more modern machines.

I have had my '69 1750 GTV since around July '97, so that means this year I will have had it for 16 years, the last 6 it has been off the road. My '69 Giulia Super I have had that for 11 years, and I have never driven it, it having been off the road since at least the 1990s (in Victoria) from where I obtained it.  Still no idea when I might finish it.  My 156 is the baby, I have only had this for 5 and a bit years.

On the other hand, my '69 Fiat AC 124 sport (I know we are talking Alfas), but it is Italian, it is the 2nd car I ever bought, and that was back in 1980/81 so that means I have had this one for around 32 years, the last 12 years it having been off the road, following major restoration work completed on it.  One day it also will resurface and grace the roads.

I think I can top most of those examples. Well not mine actually (and unfortunately) but I know of a Giulia Super that was purchased brand new on 30th June 1966 and is still owned by the original purchaser which makes it almost 46 years with one owner. Car is still in very original condition, still registered and still very driveable. Sadly not in my garage

Is that the skyblue / Pale blue / Duck egg blue Super Barry?

I spoke to the Gentleman who owns it a few years back at Spettacolo. Lovely chap.

Cheers,

Paul.

I have owned my 1973 105 GTV since 1996 so that's 17 years this year . In an effort to get the numbers up and on a slightly different tack . I have always had at least 1 Alfa in the garage in 1975 . So i haven't been Alfaless for the last 38 years.

Which begs another question; how long ago did people buy their first Alfa?

My first was a 1971 1750 Berlina, white series two with black trim, Reg FY1097, bought in Auckland in 1979.  By then it had already had 6 owners (in those days the NZ reg papers listed all owners) and with only 70,000 miles had just had its first complete engine rebuild.  I only owned it less than a year before buying a 1976 Sud Ti, which in turn quickly gave way to a 2000 GTV, now owned by Dean Peterken in Hamilton NZ.

I'm not a dino (yet).  My first (road-legal) car was an '83 Alfasud Ti (single carb) - bought not long after I got my license in 1994.

First Alfa; 1968 Guilia Super purchased 10th November, 1969 with 27,149 miles on the clock.

Longest held Alfa; 1952 1900 Berlina purchased 15th April, 1972 as a not runner (in kit form really!).  Probably also a candidate for the longest running restoration project!!
