Not an expert on these, but the calibration is to make allowances for wear and tear on the clutch and synchros, like if your synchros are a bit worn you don't want it pushing into gear too violently, and the clutch has an adjustment that has to be carried out, so that the actuator knows how much to push and it can only push so much, and there are sensors that have to be calibrated, a lot of the famous Selespeed failures are when it is not serviced and the selespeed computer doesn't know how much wear is in the system, and to avoid damage just shuts down the system, leading to "Selespeed failure - take to dealer", should be done depending on kilometres done per year and age of system, like if dealer says all ok and you do low klms, maybe every 2 years or do a lot of klms and dealer says something is nearly worn out take it back in 12 months, Colin.
