People need to get this one right too, Giulia not Guilia. Although I have found some badly spelt bargains on eBay so I don't mind when people can't spell! :P

Try explaining to some people that your alfa 75 is a 1990 model and not a 1975 model. The conversation normally runs "what model alfa?" to which you reply "75", only to hear the obvious, " ye mate but what model do you have?"..... I find it funny actually lmaooo

Atleast the 90 guys can come across as having a later model car i guess.

A search for "Alpha" on this site brings up just over a page of hits. More than 1/2 of them are *not* someone "avin a larf" about it.... In any case, I guess you won't be bidding on some Qld personalised plates that are currently available (see aroca qld classifieds)? Although - it would be funny...

I just had the model year of Alfa 75, one of which is a '90 model  ::) conversation with insurance co after a few vehicle "movements".... I think my pet hate is when car mfgs can't come up with a decent name and use numbers..... At least the Germans and Japanese (and Ferrari)  figured out that it was a good idea to use enough digits to make the number distinctive.

ANT_GTV6

+1 cannot stand the wrong spelling of Alfa. I can't even do it when I want to. Have had a few quibbles with family over it considering i'm the only one with an Alfa Romeo.

this is probably the funniest of all this is for a set of number plates that are on ebay at the moment, just look i dont want to spoil the laughs

Disinctive sure, but often repeated, meaningless and/or confusing.  Particularly when they use a number sequence to define, say, a model and engine capacity, but then devaite from the numbering at random.

'75' was chosen for an entirely valid reason.  If we extrapolate the use of the substituted 'Milano' locally, the commodore should be the Elizabeth, Falcon the Geelong !!!!!

I've owned both 60 and 80 series Landcruisers but people don't assume they are 1960 or 1980 models?

We should all be refusing to fold/apologise/adjust for other people's ignorance    ;)

I find it much more unfathomable that the Alfa 75, the 90 and the 164 series are all given the same chassis prefix.  Those in the know found the use of 101/105/116 a handy tool, then we end up with a 116-based car sharing numbers with a new-chassis FWD model......

But then I know Alfisti who refuse to accept that the GTV6 is an Alfetta, and like to define it as a separate model.

I think spellcheckers (spellchequers :)) are partially to blame for mistakes in the press/published word.  I commonly use a certain acronym at work and spellcheck suggests 'tosspot' as a viable spelling........ :o

If it's any consolation for you MD, I hate when people say "instal" instead of "installation".
That, and when people add the word "out" unnecessarily "Changing the engine out." Or, and this one is really American "The engine stalled out."
