Bonnet won't shut

Ever had the problem on your Sud\Sprint or 33 of the bonnet not closing?, it could be the actual bonnet catch cable and not the catch itself, i spent countless hours trying to adjust the catch, but to no result, you see for the bonnet to shut it must push the catch down which in turn must push the cable, to get it all working spray lots of WD-40 in the cable at the catch and use the bonnet catch release to move the cable back and forth, the cable runs downhill from the catch, so the lubricant will find its way down to the catch release handle in the car, next lubricate the catch under the bonnet and make sure the catch moves up and down with the cable pushing back when the bonnet comes down, all being adjusted properly the bonnet should close when dropped from a height of about 200mm, unlike me make sure you give it a good squirt of WD-40 every 6 months or so , Colin.

And another thing, if your bonnet cable breaks due to lack of lubrication there is an emergency bonnet cable pullcord, that is a nylon string that runs along the cable, from the inside of the car on the left hand side it is a white handle next to the bonnet catch lever, HOWEVER, they can sometimes find their way behind the carpet and you would never know you had one, thanks Alfa for providing this, Colin.

Yes, good advice, that also applies to hatch release cables as well....

Alternate method is to release hatch end of cable, place 'Funnel' of plastic around cable end and seal with rubberbands/cable tie and drip light machine oil into cable. It will work its way through, until it starts to come out at hatch release lever end.  You can also, literally, blow it through with your mouth, but it will run its own way down to handle.

Hint: place cloth under lever handle end of cable to catch excess oil !

And if you ever have a spare moment get out the WD-40 as it is thin and runs down the cable, light engine oil is only for drivers who look after their cars, WD-40 is for people like me who need a fast fix and surprise surprise the original cables are prone to rusting if not lubricated, do the following in one hit, Bonnet catch, hatch release, accelerator cable, choke cable [carby's only!], heater and fresh air cable, handbrake cable, for the carby linkages use silicone spray or graphite powder so you don't cause grit to become lodged in the linkage causing the carbs to jam open, Colin.
