Hello everybody,
have an 1976 Spider 2000/105 (owner since 20+ years) and decided now to import it finally to Melbourne / Asutralia.  While I can find out prices for freight etc, the hard thing is to calculate applicable import duties and if there are reliable shipping companies.  Also, is there is a need to change from left to RHD?  Anybody can give some advise or contacts please ? Thanks everyboy! 0424 526500

I would start with a call to customs for your import procedures and fees (if any). Get the advice in writing for later use.

I have gone thru this exercise to try and bring in a later model. Your car can be broght in and certified via the RAWS engineers see: http://www.raws.com.au/Services.asp Importing companies could cost about $3000 to ship it plus bucket loads of maney and time to go thrught he beaurocrats. the following links will hep you gather enough info. There are companies that will oversee the whole operation for a fee ($1000-1500) plus all the freight, taxes, customs, gst, compliancing. Quarantine link http://www.daffa.gov.au/aqis and
You will need to do the final registration and roadworthy. The roadworthy will fail if there is any rust on the first inspection. This will make the car a race track or spares car only and the vin/engine will be marked nationally as never to be registered. See http://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au/importing_a_car_to_australia.htm
and this will give you a form to start the proces and enable qualification http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/vehicle_regulation/bulletin/importing_vehicles/general/pdf/VSB10_Form09.pdf. Import company here : http://www.fpi.net.au/pages/cars.htm
You have got a lot of reading to go thru to do the process yourself. Most of your headaches will be beaurocracy and forms being compliant
Good luck with the exercise
