Are there any recommendations for an auto electrician as my 78 Alfetta GTV needs urgent help. I live in Victoria Point south of Brisbane

Any recommendations for someone in Bundaberg or surrounding areas that could be trusted to fix the brakes on a '71 GTV 1750 (mk 2, dual brake circuits)?

MD

Hi Jack 105, sometimes you just have to take the long way home route to get around the flood waters.
If you don't trust the local workshops, might pay to truck the vehicle down to Alchemy Motors, in East Brisbane. Ben knows his way around 105's.0404 826 406

Plan well ahead as it is a busy workshop and will involve some delay.

Hi MD, I have been trying to contact Ben from Alchemy Motors for two months and have had no answer. Is his business still in operation?

He is still in business, just very busy I'm afraid.

Hi Jack 105,

Understand your frustration. The shortage of experienced 105 mechanics in Brisbane has gradually floated to the surface. I have no way of knowing when Ben can accommodate your job so I will give you a bit of advice having rebuilt the complete brake systems on a Giulia Super a twin circuit Berlina and built several racing systems for 116 series Alfas.
Your brake system on the 105 is a relatively simple one. It doesn't have all the fancy tack on that modern cars do. Any competent mechanic with a bit of age on them can do the job. Shop around for a "senior" mechanic but first up, buy up all the caliper, master cylinder and the remote booster rubber kits and have them ready to be installed.

If required, the mechanic will have the hydraulic hardware reconditioned ready to install your new parts. It is sourcing the parts that usually puts non alfa mechanic off from doing the job. If you have the parts, it makes the job a lot less problematic.

If you consider doing this, please find your mechanic first, make the tentative arrangements and only then buy the parts.

Please bear in mind that getting a quotation for such a job will be like knowing how long a piece of string is. You are not likely to get one. Costs will rise proportional to how much corrosion is in your component system.
A mechanic that has a trustworthy reputation is a must.

Cheers, MD
