and ask Stephen for a test drive today.
After a relaxing day on Saturday, it’s time to blow the cobwebs away. So fill her up and get ready for a spectacular day trip.
Departing Eldorado 9am, then onto Beechworth, Stanley, Myrtleford (toilet break), via the very pretty back way which has only just become a sealed road. A quick visit to Lake Buffalo and then back onto the great Alpine Road to Bright, and Harrietville for lunch. After lunch it’s the Tawonga Gap, Kiewa Valley, Happy Valley and finish the day off with a yarn around the fire at the Alfa friendly Eldorado Pub. All up about 250ks of great driving and spectacular locations. We should be back by around 4.30pm.
Homage to the timeless lines and the marvellous machinery of the 116 series Alfettas is well over due.
The beautifully balanced 116 chassis, which it’s renowned around the world likes nothing more than some open and flowing country roads to strut her stuff! Just to keep her honest, we will take on a few Alpine Gap Roads. So sharpen up your footwork, and sweet talk her as much as you can, as you may just need it for this magic little trip in her honour. She will reward you by running cleanly and smoothly long after we get back. So buff her up, tyre black on and it’s time for her to let her hair down on the type of roads she craves.
We will be visiting some country locations like the Snow Line Hotel in Harrietville for one of their award winning lunches, stopping off at the beautiful Tawonga Gap lookout to toast up some marsh mellows, stretch out the legs and fill up the lungs with crisp mountain air. There should be some terrific photo opportunities so don't forget the camera!
If you would like to take part, be quick with your reply as the field is filling fast. To keep the drive manageable though, the number of vehicles will be limited to about 15. So, book early as this will be a hoot. Don’t drive a 116? Never mind, we can’t all be so lucky but you’re still be very welcome.
We have MD from this forum making the trip down from Sunny Queensland for this one, 1516k's from his from his front door to the Eldorado Pub, just goes to show the lengths Queenslanders will go for a decent Beer. l look forward to sitting around the fire and sharing a yarn with you and your wife.
Actually having MD on this trip is rather fitting because no one is more dedicated to a good drive, some fun along the way and the legendary Alfa Romeo Transaxle than him, have a look at some of his posts on this forum and also the GTV6 forum, you will see what l mean, he makes me feel more normal.
A few random photo of the beautiful lines of the 116 series.
Cheers Paul Edwards
