Smoking 156 JTS

POC, i have replaced the 4 Coil packs in mine, without a problem, the problem is the fuel injectors on the JTS, i have been told by an Alfa Specialist that all the injectors have slightly different values and tolerances, and when the computer finds out you have replaced the injector without telling it, it gets angry and throws up an alarm, do a compression check on the JTS, to find out whether the rings are crook, or valves are leaking, maybe the head gasket has started to leak, before pulling engine down for rebuild, spoke to a bloke at Spectacolo last year, said he knows of JTS thats done 300,000ks, on original engine, Colin.

Direct Injection is not new, it has been round since the 50's, but in the form for fixed speed diesels, the latest powerfull and fast engine computers, have allowed direct injection to be used on variable speed petrol motors, i beleive Mitsubishi had the first direct injection petrol motor, Colin.

Regarding direct injection, new injectors require computer reprograming on diesels only, the petrol injectors go straight in, that was confusion on my behalf, however, if you replace a injector with a new one, then it will work 100%, because its clean and not blocked, the others may be 50% blocked, so its a good idea to have all the others cleaned so they are working 100%, with some cars, if you have a dirty air cleaner, the computer can adjust the injector to suit the reduced airflow, so it doesn't pollute too much, but when you replace the air cleaner all of a sudden there is lots more air and the computer can take time to adjust the mixture to suit, so you can get a error message, until the computer works out the new settings, LPG Falcons are particulary prone to this, so all you 147 - 156 - 166 drivers change your air cleaner at the correct distance to avoid these problems, Colin.

Any update on this one? It seems it could be anything from a vacuum leak to an engine rebuild! Just wondering how the original poster got on with it..

Thats the trouble with this Forum, poster comes up with a problem, we put our two cents worth in, and you don't hear of the solution, this is so we can see who was on the money and who was way off, please if you post something, follow up with the solution, as we all might need to know one day, Colin.

yeah i was kinda hoping that it turned out ok for the owner....like the mechanic replaced a a $2 part and the whole problem went away!

i have been on the receiving end of plenty of these money-pit-mysteries... (i have only ever driven alfas so that's to be expected!)
