Seat belts in Alfetta GT

I'm having difficulty replacing the front seat belts in my '76 Alfetta GT.  I've fitted 3 aftermarket, lap sash recoil  belts from 2 different manufacturers & they all lock up frequently when in normal use.  Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Thanks Paul, you are spot on with the problem.  I had a really close look & the recoil unit was slightly off vertical due to 1 edge being on a ply panel.  I am amazed the mechanism is that critical.
