Hi Guys

HAve a couple of questions. Currently working on new discs and pads on the 75 TS. Have one stripped hex bolt so working on that Saturday :-(

The "CV" joints on the rear end.

Question 1. How do you change the rubber boots, do you need to totally dismantle the axle, or are new boots split down each side?

Question 2. How do you know when the "CV" joints are worn and need replacement?

I know on the old 33 I was told, take it through a round about and give it a bit. If you hear a ticking or rattle, the CV needs replacing. Is it the same for the ones on the rear.

Thanks in advance guys for your help.

In mine there was a conical spring washer (Belleville washer(sp?)) that had to be compressed before you could remove the circlip. It was between the CV centre and a step on the shaft. The washer is very stiff and you'll need a press. Dad and I improvised with mine by using a bottle jack and some spacers, then stood it up under our bolted down work bench as a makeshift press frame.

thanks for the info guys.

And the vote of confidence. The chance of me doing any job in any car in under an hour is lke the chance of me buying a BMW - zero.

Thanks for the tips though, i will give these a good inspection and see if it is worth doing while the car is off the road and off the ground.
