Anyone know how difficult to operate the red drawstring emergency filler cap release should be. I have one that seems impossible to pull without breaking the rope...

As the day goes

It's typically a red string loose in the boot on the side of the filler cap

The red drawstring works but you most likely won't hear anything click or pop when you pull it and when you do pull it, it doesn't actually move very far so it can seem like nothing happened.

To see it in action, do this simple test; unlock the car, open the boot, lock the car (the blinkers will flash a lot because its trying to tell you something is wrong, in this case the boot is still open).

Now try opening the fuel filler door, you'll see that it is locked as the car is still locked. Now pull the red drawstring firmly and try to open the fuel filler door again, you'll see it can now be open.

My guess is, the red drawstring is only there as a backup IF the fuel filler door locking solenoid is malfunctioning or no longer working.

Ok, thanks for that suggestion. I was expecting to feel it move and the cap pop open but I'll give it a go and pay closer attention this time.

Yeah the filler door isn't the type that pops open, thats why it has that indent as you have to push it for it to open.

The red drawstring is if the locking solenoid has failed and the filler door remains locked, only then will you need to unlock it manually.

Do some 159s not have them? Thought they were standard, but mine doesn't have it.

Perhaps the previous owner pulled too hard? ;D
The only problem with the GTV6? They forgot to install the flux capacitor...

Couldn't find mine either, then my partner removed the boot liner on the driver side and it was behind the liner.
