Hello,

I need to remove this piece https://i.imgur.com/yMisAgm.jpg since there's a bit of rust in it and I want to paint it

Can you pease tell me if this is a rivet https://i.imgur.com/ry1HCTm.jpg and if I need to drill it out to remove said piece?

Hi SDMN
Yes that is a rivet that appears to be securing bracketing of some description to the fixed vertical channel. Not familiar with this model Alfa and can’t be sure of whether this rivet needs to be drilled out to remove the vertical support. I would first remove the upper weather seal and see how it is secured/fastened underneath and then go from there.

Not sure of the condition of door regarding rust repair, but that bailey channel shown on photo will need to be powder coated to same colour as the other side. The only issue I see is the depth of pitting and whether it can be removed/treated to a clean surface when old coating is removed (powder coater should be able to advise here).

it's pretty rotten at the bottom, surprisingly the rest of the door is in perfect shape.

like everything in this car, this is going to be impossible to find isn't it?

I would be looking to get a replacement bailey channel, rather than repairing it, if at all possible.

"Alfettaman" was breaking up a 75 a little while ago.  I grabbed some bits.  The car appeared very rust free.
Try searching Buy/Swap/Sell.

The reassembly should be reverse. My guess is that with the door card removed the following procedure applies.
1.   Refasten the top part of the bailey channel (new rivet).
2.   Fit window seal top and sides.
3.   Slide glass up within channels and temporarily hold midway in position.
4.   Secure/Fasten bottom part of bailey channel into position.
5.   Connect and secure window winding mechanism to the bottom of glass.
6.   If required make any adjustment to allow proper up and down movement.
7.   Refit door card.

oh so you were supposed to remove the bailey channel before removing the glass? I somehow managed to remove the glass without removing the channel and now couldn't reassemble it in that reverse order.

I feel your pain.

Mine was a lot worse and I had to remake the bottom half of the channel.
It was a pain to make but turned out ok, I though.
However, now a couple of years later, when I put it back in I realised I messed up the position of the mounting screws so now have to take it out and shorten it.
I had it all nicely painted in the correct trim colour too.
Ah well, serves me right for not checking.
Also the channel is too tight for the window guide rubber anyway so I can at least fix that when it's out.
Wonder if I still have the template?

Hi Dcal...
The window channel on these cars tend to corrode badly, particularly if the rubbers/seals have deteriorated to a level whereby they are no longer keeping the water out. This sort of detail sometimes gets overlooked when carrying out repairs or rebuilds to projects and soon fester other problems, such as corrosion to inner doors and panels. By the way had a look at your referenced link and there is some serious rust repairs that have been undertaken throughout the build. This and another post here in Australia on the Alfa 75 V6 are an absolute a treasure trove of information and provide a future handy reference to other Alfa 75 owners worldwide.

Hi Bonno, I found that thread while trying to identify some parts of my car while I was welding it.
It was a great help and I did tell him so.
It's a pity it gone quiet and I really hope the photos don't get lost because it's a real gold mine of information.
Mine was so badly gone and bodged in places that I had very little to go on so Shiny's thread was a life saver for me.

I found this forum searching for other details so thought I'd try and post some stuff to say hi and thanks.
When I get my post count up I'll post a few photos.

You are right about the detail.
My build was supposed to be a running restoration (as if) and I kept the drivers doors complete and only dismantled and worked on the PS which were in the worst shape. In the end it was about the only thing on the car I didn't strip out at the start.
Last night I pulled  the driver's side rear door apart and had trouble getting the window channel out. (I had to drill out the Philips screw half way down the channel)
I thought the fixing at the quarterlight just went into the channel but it goes through the channel and squeezes the door together against the channel at that point.
There is also a bit of insulation tape each side to act as protection and as a rudimentary seal, I assume.
On the PS all this was lost because both the channel and the door was gone at that location and I missed it.
The one on the DS is in good shape so I was able to replicate it now, (or near enough to function) but it's so easy to miss detail like that, especially if it's the only one you have ever really seen up close.
