Whatever you buy, play with tyre pressures.   Alfettas are particularly sensitive, or should I say responsive, to tyre pressure.

And as you've said, you need to reset the mind to get the best out of a non PS, RWD, well balanced 40yo car like the Alfetta.  There won't be enough power, there will be body roll, tyre noise, and initial reluctance to turn in, but they are super-forgiving in corners and you can make them dance once you've spent some time behind the wheel.   In my opinion, too much outright grip can negatively affect the overall handling and spoils an Alfetta as a road car.

Great point about tyre pressures, Beatle. Out of curiosity what would you run?

If I recall correctly, the factory recommendation indicated in the table on the door frame of my GTV is 26-28psi, but that would be for standard 60 profile rubber on 15" rims (and just seems too low in this day and age). As I'm running non-standard lower profile rubber (55s) I generally use 32psi.

Before: 1999 156 V6 Q-auto

It's been a while but I can't recall ever running less than 32PSI, and up to 40.

yes there is something to be said for maintaining a balance between manufacturers spec and advances in tyre technology.

My 75 2.5 had 17"/50 IIRC and it just wasn't a great combination at all. The 116 chassis needs a bit of side wall..(In my opinion)
