105 Sunroof Track

Currently restoring a 74 105GTV and am trying to retain the metal sunroof

Does anyone know where I might find the plastic track as shown in the pics ?

As far as i know, sunroof was never factory option for a 105, i think the Australian dealers offered it, but it was the horrible vinyl type, and they were very badly installed, as i learnt when i removed one from the last race car.  Anyway pretty sure that's not going to be an Alfa part, so you might struggle to get a replacement. is there any indication on the manufacturer of the sunroof?

It is Hollandia or at least a GTV I had years ago had one of them.

I think there was a factory option for 105 coupes (2000 GTV). There are a few floating around Australia that
have what looks like a factory windback sunroof.

Its a bit like power windows. Available ( I think the factory brochure shows them) but I don't think either option was offered here. I think there was a green car that had them optioned up (motor show car I think?)

Perhaps they were South African? (ie. Automatics).

No 2000GTVs came to Australia with a factory sunroof, they were all installed locally. I think the most popular of the steel (as opposed to the fabric type Webasto) sunroofs were made by Hollandia and installed by Auto Sun and Air in Chatswood (they moved to Sydney's northern beaches in the 1980s.)

It just so happened that my panelbeater worked for Auto Sun and Air in the 1970s and for the restoration of my 74 GTV with Hollandia sunroof we were able to source hard to find parts including a new handle out of the Netherlands, where they were originally produced. Mine has a grab handle that you just pull in the direction of the roof opening. It had a fairly large opening, but I've seen some with smaller openings and even a few that were electrically operated - I'm not sure whether these were Hollandia or Golde sunroofs.

Hollandia is now a subsidiary of the US Webasto company.

I know of a few 2000 GTVs that have had the sunroofs removed - a big job. The cavity of mine had rust in it as did the rood itself(!) and the front drain holes went into the sills(!) but removing the sunroof was never an option for me. I loved it.

I have seen roofs on US cars (pics) and on some European cars that have been for sale over the years. So it would be nice if anyone one knew of any 'factory fitted' cars.

Then again if some that brand was made in  Holland they could have been shipped all over the place!

Golde I think were German. They were fitted to Mercs, Porsches etc. and of course used by Ford here in Oz in the Falcon XW - XC range (including GT's and other models). There may have been others - not sure.

Hi  I am currently doing away with two different sunroofs one webasto one moon roof just by putting another turret on not a small job but not difficult hey presto no leaks if I want an open car I drive a spider anyone needs webasto let me know john

You could always try and get a 3d printer to make one or 2
we just made some obsolete brake switches for a 1957 ducati
using a printer

I think it was Alfa guru Tony McKone who told me that no 105 GTVs came to Australia with factory sunroofs. If anyone would know it would be him. Remember that you needed to redo the headlining after fitting a roof. My car had been retrimmed and sported black headlining (yuck!)

Whilst my roof didn't leak, if you parked it on a slope in the rain then the water would gush down when you moved away. My drain holes never worked properly.

My mother's 1980 Volvo had a factory Golde sunroof, which had a handle that you pulled down and then turned in a clockwise direction. It was a quality bit of kit that never gave any dramas in over 30 years of ownership.

So a quick check on Auto Sun and Air Pty Ltd (incorporated 1971) finds that its name has changed to Bill Buckle Leasing Pty Ltd in Fortitude Valley!

There is a place in Melbourne established 30 years that specialises in Webasto and Hollandia sunroofs called Custom Sunroofs: http://customsunroofs.com.au/index.html

They may have old spare parts for Hollandia sunroofs. Worth a call.
