Hi there,
I'm new to posting.
I have just bought a P4, unfortunately not performing as it should, after only driving it 300km and as such am a bit disappointed.
Does anyone  know who in the club races or has a few of these permanent 4s. I need info on how the electromagnetic coupling engages and where I might be able to get it repaired or replaced if that is what my problem might be.

Thanks,
Andrew

When you say it is not performing well, what do you mean engine or driveline problems?
Take it to an Independent Alfa Romeo Specialist, not a current Alfa Romeo Dealer, as they would have never seen a P4.
You need a Alfa mechanic who has been working on older Alfa Romeo's that were imported into Australia, by the old Alfa Romeo Australia, the newer ones are a different kettle of fish.
I have heard that the parts for the 4 wheel drive 33's are getting rare, so you need a knowledgeable Alfa mechanic who knows about these cars, with an ability to source parts.
Have a look at the supporters page on your states webpage and go to the closest indy alfa service provider and have a talk to them.
There were about 30 imported into Australia by the Alfa importer at Matraville, dare i say a few more have been imported privately, Colin.

Thanks Colin for your comments. Its the drivetrain. 4x4 light comes on hence the all wheel drive doesn't engage. I think I will have to make the effort to drive up to Sydney and leave the car with someone for a week or so, i live near Canberra. Any idea who in Sydney fixes the "older" cars and has the know how.

Gulsons or AutoTech in Canberra are probably your best bet. Especially Gulsons, they have an extensive history (incl. racing) with Alfa through the ages. Give them a ring. You might also want to search the i'net for the solutions to your issue, I seem to recall that the coupling is no longer available (sorry).

The coupling may no longer be available from new Alfa Romeo spare part sellers, but you might be able to track one down off ebay, from a place that does Alfasud and 33 spare parts.
Being a older Alfa Romeo, it may be an electrical problem, and the actual part may be working, as in the case with a lot of old Alfa Romeo's, Gulsons or Auto Tech would be your next call, if the coupling can't be purchased new, then try a second hand parts recycler, such as Monza Motors in Bayswater Melbourne, Colin.

Hi Andrew

Did you buy the Red one that was for sale at a dealer in nth Sydney recently (MAC33S)?  If so it is worth calling the guys at Alfamotive in Marrickville to discuss the problem as they know the car well.

There is a wrecker in Sydney (JDM Parts Sydney - search on eBay) with a white P4, low kms P4 that might have be worth investigating.

Alfamotive have been very helpful and we are dealing with bits over the phone. I've done about as much as i can in checking wires and cleaning connections so I'm thinking a trip to Sydney is on the cards. Other than this, the car is great.  :)

Andrew one has just been stripped and the owner has just about everything listed on e-bay, if you ever have driveline sourcing parts problems, I believe off memory Alfa Romeo sourced technicalities off Suburu, so some Suburu parts may match up  :)

I finally drove to Sydney and took the car to Andrew at Alfamotive and its now all good and working as it should. Apparently a nut had come off the back of the coupling so this had slipped the drive train back and hence not allowing the coupling to engage. Now to clean, detail and enjoy  :D
