Title: Wanted to buy
Post by: Fast Eddie on November 01, 2007, 07:38:17 PM
I am looking for a cheap, rust free (as much as poss, certainly no structural rust), 1977 - 79 Alfetta GTV 2000.
Body must be decent, motor not so important.

reply to this post or email me - edward@selectfs or PM me.

yeah but i am now not so sure...
...tonight i have finally seen Brad's 72 105 GTV over here in Perth and i like!  These cars are really starting to appeal to me and can still easily become a Group S car whilst always remaining an absolute classic Alfa in my book.  I could really see myself spending bucketloads of cash doing one of these up over the years.  All i need to do now is find one dirt cheap here in Perth with a solid, rust-free body.  Happy to do up the interior and buy go fast bits for the engine bay.

so you have given up on it even before you started  ;)

i have heard of such cars as well but it is only a myth, such cars do not really exist  :'(

Poor Bruno!  Did he did get a ribbing at the the 6 Hour meeting last night  ;D ;D ;D

Things like:  (not verbatim)

"I'm sure no one owes money to Bruno"

"Need more 6 hour sponsors?  Send Bruno"

"Penalty infringement @ the 6 hour?  See Bruno"

"Scrutineering issue?  See Chief Scruntineer Bruno for clarification"

I saw Bruno last night.  Made sure not to make any quick/sharp movements and avoided eye contact.  It seemed to work OK.  I walked away.

wish i could type more with my left hand but it is very slow...  or I would join in.  I shouldn't make him feel worse than he already does.  Clearly it was my immense strength overpowering my own bone, nothing to do with bruno.  It was a titanic struggle though... until BANG!  Should have stuck with the ping pong  :-X

I heard Bruno stuck Evans arm under the hoist and lowered it when he said he was thinking of putting a 1.2litre into his Sud ;) :o

Apparently Evan did not seem get the message with the horse's-head-in-the-bed thing, so the meeting in the Italian restuarant just went to the next level!
Seems Bruno  just does not like those Suds.
Evan, just be thankfull you don't drive an ARNA, you might have been knee-capped!
Get well mate. I cringe every time I hear the story. (About 50 times at last nights meeting)

Awww come on....where are all those chinese whispers ???  I thought there would be about 20 different stories on what happened by now. ;D ;D

Although the real story is just as unbelieveable......Bruno & Evan having an arm wrestle, and snap....two days later surgery with plates and pins etc.

Sheldon started it!!

I wasn't sure I wanted this to come out in the public forum where customers might read - please anyone reading this Bruno is a gentle and tolerant bloke who wouldn't hurt anyone intentionally.  This was a genuine accident while we were mucking about in a pub.

Bloody funny though - I was absolutely stubbornly not going to let him beat me then BANG I spiral fractured my humerus.  The blood curdling crack made everyone at the table look around to see what had happened.   :'( Then I realised my arm didn't work no more.  Sunday they bolted in a steel plate and I'm off work for at least a couple of weeks.

Neil - I won't be running at Phillip Island  ::)

**bump**
Okay, ive decided... i want a 105, preferably a 1968 1750 series 1 and preferably one that is already in WA so i dont have to waste precious $ trucking it over the Nullabor.

Now, to go buy that lottery ticket to fund the purchase

mmmaybe, certainly an allrounder - weekender - EMR, and perhaps sprints, hillclimbs and the odd regularity, even tarmac rally event

That's where I think a 105 Coupe can really fit the bill.  A mildly warmed over motor, some mildly stiff springs and shocks, a tidy interior and paint job and the car can do just about anything.  Look at Damien Crea's 1750 GTV - the damn thing looks beautiful on display at Spettacolo, then he bolts on some R-specs and is significantly quick at sprint days.  He does EMRs, has done rallies in the past.  That 105 gets a caning, and is still a beautiful classic car (from the outside).

The twin-spark conversion helps I suppose, but the same thing from a nicely warm 2 litre would do the trick.

Hey Simon, NO Alfa of mine goes to a shopping Centre carpark!!!  or if i do, i might as well have taken a taxi i park so far away.
That's what Bec's Astra is for!

Great example.  Now, all i gotta do is rob someone for the funds, then find the car!

Ed, This may not be exactly the 105 spec that you are after but it is my current screen saver and may help keep the dream alive.

PS There was a photo on the forum recently of you in your Alfetta coming on to the main straight at Sandown that looked vaguely this

Initially, i got on the site to check if the P.I. results were up yet but...

So... back to the original subject of this topic - I dont reckon I will ever afford that classic 1750 105 or the spider i am yearning for.

Thus, I am still in the market for a cheap, rust free, WA licensed 77 - 79 Alfetta GTV 2000.

I watched some footage of Tony Ricciardo's Alfetta GTV in a Super sports sedan race on SBS' Speedweek this arvo which reminded me how much i love the shape of these Alfas.

Mind you i still cant afford that either.  Better go buy that lotto ticket.

Hope P.I. was good.  We had our WA Xmas gathering this morning - BBQ brunch on the beach. Sadly, we had to move it from the beach to Ron D'Raine's house (our Editor) nearby due to this fantastic Perth summer we are having - got rained out.

Merry Christmas to all over East.

ed,

check out the latest post in the for sale section of the WA division website. seems to fit your bill pretty well (unless it has already been sold)

Yeah that one almost snuck through my close monitoring of the market.
Went and had a look earlier this week.  Needs a lot of work -

- The front guards are shot, there a few heavy dings and plenty of minor rust etc, possible needs new sills and new front guards etc and hasnt been started for 6 months so probably smokes like heck and have seized brakes.  But it is a complete car other than the glass missing out of the drivers side mirror.
Supposedly the suspension is modded - definitely has non stock springs but dont know the brand.

anyone got a cheap spare, rust-free set of front guards in red and a drivers side mirror?

But i still havent got the money even if i could get it cheap.  So probably shelving the purchase idea for up to 6 months.

still looking for my next classic Alfa, either 77-79 Alfetta GTV 2000 or 68 105 GTV (any series motor).

Either must be W.A. licensed, preferably complete with minimal, certainly no structural rust.

As my 156 GTA is on the market, i am looking down the barrel at being a non Alfa owner for the first time in about 10 years which is abhorrent.
