Thanks Barry, i don't know where you get time to run the club shop, edit the magazine, turn up to every event with your car full of club shop merchandise and be at every wrecking yard or service place that i go to, 'Barry Everywhere', must be 2 of him!, but great job on magazine, keep up the good work Baz, Colin.

On behalf of Stuart T, thanks to all for the comments re C&S. Your support makes it all worthwhile. All I/we have to do now is to get the mag out on time.

Any/all contributions for future issues most welcome.

Good choice to go thru the canola fields .  Probably someone who has a bias for 75 ownership. ;) ::)

Yeah i got it.

Seriously, there could have been more photos from spettacolo of other cars apart from the 75's. It felt like 1989 again seeing them taking the spotlight away from some other great cars that were there.

Sorry if you were disappointed by the coverage of the cars at Spettacolo and the apparent concentration on a particular model. Perhaps you'd like to volunteer next year to attend the event and select the cars that should be photographed and be worthy of inclusion in C&S.
From a personal and editor's point of view I would have liked to include many more photographs but unfortunately space limitations prevented a more extensive photographic coverage of the event.
Having attended and photographed a few car events over the past 45+ years one always aims at getting the broadest possible coverage of the cars involved and the subject matter becomes a personal and subjective choice. As Editor I have and will continue to follow this philosophy

Barry (Editor)

PS By the way, which of the cars that appeared in C&S would you consider not good enough to be included?

Barry,

First of all i did attend the event and agree with your philosophy. However, being a big annual event there could have been more and bigger photos of the cars as there was a few years ago (full 4 page spread from memory) and not the little shots.

Every year when i attend spettacolo, i always look for something different that catches my eye. Last year it was the new Mito QV that stood out aswell as the SZ and TZ. However, i do understand that the weather was a contributing factor this time round.

IMO Claude Botti's newly acquired GTV6 24valve should have been in the mag, along with the red 75 with the GTA wheels and the other 75 with the GT wheels. Sure these are "just" 75's but they are a different sort of 75  that combine old design techniques with modern additions to spring some life back in the model. Claude's GTV6 looked awesome and was good to see a non race car 24v GTV6 in Melbourne. But for some reason every C+S after spettacolo has angelo verga's car. Not to offend anyone but i'm kind of tired of seeing that car in the mag. Claude's GTV6 offered again the mix of retro and modern mechanicals to show what can be achieved. The 8C spider should have graced the cover for its sheer rarity in Australia when compared to your run of the mill 156 wagon. I mean the car could be sold off interstate anytime soon and we didn't have a decent photo of it. The new giuletta could have got a better photo than the front quarter shot it received. We want to attract more people to the brand and improve sales of the car so some decent shots of it would have only done some benefit to the car itself and probably removed the criticism of its design that many alfisti have of the model and believing it to be too much fiat and not enough alfa. Not all the photos of the cars in the magazine were useless but when you have 2 photos of alfa spiders, 2 showing 75's and one being a rear shot you begin to question why would you put those in when Marisa took much better photos than the ones presented. There was a range of photos that could have been included and surely many would agree.

Oh well maybe next year, we can make some changes and learn from past experiences. We start by planning the event in late november to avoid the early november rains that have occured over the past 2 years. A few years ago the later events had always better weather.

Peace out everyone. Just some constructive criticism to take on board for ways to move forward.

Angelo, lots of handy critical feedback in there.  Sometimes it's better received if sent directly to the editor and/or committee, rather than shot out here.  I look forward to your volunteer efforts in the future.  You'll be first to step forward when an editor or magazine production role is required, I'm sure.

Hi Angelo,

Part of this is my fault.  I was unable to attend the event and as such we had to rely on one person for the photography.  Marisa kindly offered some photographs and sent them to Barry.  Presumably the one she chose were the ones she liked.  As a member contribution we like to respect that decision and publish the photos as chosen.  Perhaps if you had contributed some photos as well we would have had more to choose from?

As for photos of the 8C, none were taken in the correct layout for the front cover.

We have also featured the 8C on at least two other covers since I've been doing the layout.

The 156 wagon is a nice car, one of which many of our readers own, with the city on the backdrop it summed up Spettacolo well, I believe.

As a reminder to contributors, if you want a picture on the front cover it HAS to be taken in PORTRAIT orientation.  When printed at 300 dpi I need full resolution DSLR photo to fill vertically with a picture in portrait mode.

Cheers
Stuart

I have been a member of a number of Car clubs over the years and my father is always getting club magazines from the UK and I must say that the "Cross + Serpent" is right up there with the very best.
I enjoyed reading the latest edition as I have the past and love the great diversity in events and cars that are covered. Clearly a huge effort was made by Barry Edmunds in this edition. Congratulations!
I must point out one minor correction in the article on the 'Sandown Sprints'. The Lotus Europa (aka 'Lotus Valez' LOL) was a type '54' not a '47' as stated. Now that would be an expensive fix if it was a 47!
Keep up the great work team  ;)

Just caught up with the magazine - good effort Barry et all.  Having been there, done that in years gone by it's clear there has been a lot of effort into improving the magazine in recent years. It shows and is appreciated.

Thanks Angelo for your feedback, i have had various feed back about photos chosen for the magazine and the front cover, personally i think the front cover picture is the right choice because of it's orientation and content and it really shouldn't matter which Alfa Romeo makes the front cover, in my opinion, every car there on the day was and is beautiful and a true treasure to photograph. And like Stewart said the 8C has already featured on covers before, and i think it's great the 156 wagon made the cover because it is beautiful!  :)

I just want to say for the record it has been a challenge choosing photos for this magazine, because i take hundreds of photos each event, and there are so many stunning cars, so many colour choices, different lighting conditions, different angles etc.  but i try to to my best, and i am still learning, and i am sorry if anyone is upset by my photo choices for the magazine. I am happy to hear any feed back from anyone, because thats how i learn  :)

And i take the magazine to work and read it, and my fellow workmates cannot beleive such a slick looking magazine is a club mag, and not something done that you would pay good money at a Newsagent stand, thanks to everyone concerned, Colin.

Don't be sorry about anything Miss Alfa Sprint, haters are gonna hate no matter what you do.  You volunteer your time, and that should be enough for anyone.  I did the magazine for quite a few years, and I quickly realised that there will always be someone who thinks it could be done better.  99% of the time these are the people that never do any volunteer work for the club, but expect the world from the people that do.  You've just got to get on with it and do the job that you think best represents the majority of the membership.

Stu, Barry; the magazine looks great, well done.  But why no competition report?
