The race footage part-way in is awesome, sliding around the dusty roads.
Thanks for posting this.
This is the bollocks!
Tyre technology certainly has come on since the days of racing on what I assume are cross-plies.
I grew up in NZ, where any kind of drive out of the city becomes a Targa Floria by nature of the roads (in slower motion, admittedly), this is my ideal kind of racing.
I once did a lap of Sicily (Fiat Punto 1.2L), but I didn't know much about the Targa then, so I didn't go out of my way to travel on these roads. We did go into the mountains for a while though, looked very much like this video.
Heaven!

I've got a copy of the whole DVD called "The Speed Merchants" covering the 1972 season of sports car racing. Narrated by Vic Elford and Mario Andretti. Highly recommended.

Cheers Evan, sounds great!
Torben, you are a lucky man to have even got to drive in Sicily! It has been a dream of mine for many years. I have been to Monza though, and if there was ever a more evocative place, I'm yet to find it.
I'd like to do a book on Targa events current and historic, re-trace the stages/circuits and kind of build it as a motoring related travel guide.
I'll go back now to my pics of the Targa Florio winning Porsche 908 that ran in the Targa Tassie this year, and dream a while longer.

Here's your chance to purchase one of these cracking 33-3TTs. I'd love to buy it but I'm about 500,000 pounds short!
