Barry's Run to the Center and Dinner at Cellar 47
On the Saturday morning there will be a rally/touring/economy run/observation type event. This event will start from alongside the Shell service station on Mickleham Road Gladstone Park at 10am SHARP. From there the route will take participants through as much of central Victoria as I can manage to steer you through in a few hours. I have endeavored to set out a course that is more scenic than taxing and all but a short section of around 3.5 kms is on fully sealed bitumen roads. The 3.5 kms section is on an all weather dirt road that should not present any problems, unless of course we get inundated with a monsoon like downpour which could make life interesting to say the least.
Without giving too much away about the route the halfway point break will be at Heathcote and the completion of the event proper will be at the Shell service station adjacent to Victoria Lake as you arrive in Shepparton. It will be necessary to fill your vehicles up as part of the economy run. All under supervision of course. From there the touring party will head south a very short distance to the Broken River Vineyard for a light libation and a spot of relaxation after the morning run. The Broken River Vineyard is situated on River Road about 2 kms east from the Goulburn Valley Highway and is very easy to find. Maps will be provided.
There are numerous motels in Shepparton which are within easy access to both the city centre and also Deca for the following morning, you will have to make your own accommodation arrangements. Two of the motels I have checked out are the Tudor House and Courtyard Inn motels on Wyndham Street. At the time of writing this both have indicated that they have rooms available for May 19 but I would suggest that you get in early to avoid disappointment, or having to sleep in your car. Accommodation ranges from standard single rooms to doubles, triples and family rooms and even spa rooms if you are so inclined. Rates range from $86.90 for a single at the Courtyard Motel (03) 5831 2355 to $121 for a family room at the Tudor House Motel (03) 5821 8411.
Saturday night has been taken care of as well with promise of a great culinary experience at Angelo Grasso's Cellar 47 Restaurant. Kicking off at 7.30pm the evening will also incorporate the handing out of trophies for the observation event and economy run.
